I am showing several media artworks ranging from affordable to institutional at this pop-up show curated by Noté Peter George:

Premieres include a new digital moving image artwork, Ululu Takete 4, as well as 5 singular prints from the ongoing Ululu Takete series of light drawings.

The most recent work is a study for a public art installation, Helping Hands for the Bronx River, which is offered as a single edition digital media file and its framed print.

Another recent work is Brother Islands (as told by “Tex”), an art book in an edition of 4 containing quotes from Bill Etra about his experiences in a homeless shelter, alongside painterly images from the ruins of an infamous quarantine island.

Making Waves 3, 2010, is another singular offering, a collage of slowmo water shot while hiking in Carmel Valley with my family.

The Portrait of Enayet Kabir #s 1-5, 2013, limited edition DVDs mark the beginning of my video portraiture works of the past half decade.

The earliest works include Pure Information, 2000, a VHS by my real-time media trio, NNeng, and Neculai Gaxiola, 2006, a collaboration with Nancy Meli Walker and V Owen Bush, which is offered as a limited edition DVD and as a 29-screen CRT installation.

My fellow Freedman Home Artists in Residence in this group show include Renee Cox, Meguru Yamaguchi, Gabriel Aiello, Alice Mizrachi, LuzeOne, Warren Smith, Jennie West, Natalie Collette Wood, Elena Hall, Carlos Mare, Adrian Kondratowicz and Valarie Irizarry.

TRIGGERS in Sonic Arcade: Subject to Gesture

Curator Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe selected TRIGGERS for his gallery within the museum-wide exhibit of sound art. In winter 2000 I couldn’t handle the icy streets on crutches, so me and my broken foot stayed in my studio, making videos for my friends while I couldn’t go out to socialize. Aaron Cantor macraméd the wires into a hand emitting lightning bolts and I designed a system to hold the 4.5 hours of time-based media art.

As I write this post, Barbara Held is performing our ongoing realtime media artwork / installation, Pausa, at Medialab-Prado. We developed this work in 2017, premiering at Harvestworks, followed by performances and exhibitions in St. Paul and St. Cloud, MN, curated by Godfre Leung at Studio Z and Kiehle Gallery. Soon, Barbara and I will develop the next version of Pausa in a micro-residency at CultureHub. Watch out for announcements of our 2018 exhibitions in Canada, and in Spain, including offerings by Juan Naranjo Gallery in Barcelona.
